In 1796, Swiss inventor and clockmaker Antoine Favre created a wood pocket watch with an embedded musical mechanism. Favre’s watch, the first to include a mechanical “comb” with a pinned cylinder for making sound, is credited with being the first-known wood “box” to play a pleasing melody. History has dubbed Favre the “Music Box Man.”
